Oumuamua (2:30). This translates approximately in Hawaiian as scout. The name was assigned to the first known interstellar object to visit our solar system, discovered in 2017. |
Legend (1:52). Heroic journey of our legendary rider. Love those spaghetti westerns. Instrumentation: Drum loop (BIAB), guitar-top bongo, acoustic guitar, P-bass, custom piccolo bass (lead), ahh/clap effects. |
Dorian Pursuit (2:32). Simply the thrill of the chase. But to what end? Middle section seems to suggest an underwater ride on a small submersible, and a warm dry towel at the end. Instrumentation: Drum loops (BIAB, Apple), electric guitar, P-bass, J-bass (solo), horns played on custom piccolo bass through synth, organ from keyboard to midi, B3 synth.

Passage (3:31). Written (with lyrics) as a BLM tribute to lost souls. For any theory nerds: this progresses through the cycle of fourths in minor. Instrumentation: Upright bass, J-bass, keyboard to midi to B3 organ synth, acoustic guitar (w/effects), meditation bell.

Crusade (1:54). Saddle up, and once again into the breach. Seems to be safe harbor at the end, until .... This edited from a 4-minute composition with additional verse/chorus couplets. Lyrics critique the protests in Portland. Instrumentation: e-drums, wood block, drum loop (BIAB), electric guitar, P-bass, custom piccolo bass.

Stormy Smoothness (3:03). Something for a slow evening. Played over the changes for “Stormy Monday.” Probably too close for comfort. Instrumentation: Drum, keys backing (BIAB), P-bass, custom piccolo bass (lead).

Isolation (3:50). The foul year of our lord 2020 brought a whole new take on “alone time.” Thinking David Lynch here. |
Planet B (1:47). Edited from full version w/vocals. Of course while there is a Planet Claire, there is no Planet B. |
Inconvenient Strangers (1:45). Edited from a longer version. With lyrics written as a reflection on migrants and their plight. Strings played with custom piccolo bass through midi converter, Apple synth. |
Disruption at Noon (3:01). Written in February 2020 in the face of the viral menace, but with a western sensibility. Just a shoot-out. Time flexible if needed, just change the clock. |
Dead Cat Bounce (0:48). Just a raucous reaction to the stock market this year. Which was, as always, leaving most everyone behind. |
In the Hall of the Murder Hornet (2:21). Originally composed (extended with vocals) as an examination of the loss of bees. Here sideways to feature the latest invasive menace (also a threat to bees). Apologies to Grieg. |
One Cobalt Blue (2:50). A more personal piece from a yet unpublished project, this was written (with vocals) as a reflection on the idea of needing “100 Addictions” to find balance, with a subtext on co-dependency. |
