6th Event is a solo multi-instrumentalist project by Craig Trumbo, and the flagship musical enterprise under the label VuJa de Industries. Business, recording, and production facilities are located at the foothills of the northern Rocky Mountains at Fort Collins, Colorado.
The main thrust of the project is motivated toward examining anxieties concerning the future. It's not just climate change, that's only the backdrop; it's the whole unraveling. Coming soon, to a civilization near you. The bad news of late has been like a heavy hand on the brain. Never mind the politics of the day. It's the IPPC reports, Naomi Oreskes, “Uninhabitable Earth.” It's strike three, and the youth are getting pissed worldwide, skipping class, gluing themselves to public transport. I guess this is for them; our only hope.
Anchored in this conceptual domain, the project is unbound to any stylistic or genre-based approach. A variety of influences drive creation of the pieces, which are disparate in their approach. Lyrics and flow attempt to imagine Dylan and Leonard Cohen for poetic insight, and Steely Dan for irony and satire. Anything goes for musical approach, from considering Jean Luc Ponty to Blondie.
Principally a bassist, I reach to a variety of instrumentation to fulfill the ideas behind the individual pieces. Details are provided on the liner notes. Wedded to a montage of artistically appropriated imagery, each piece stands as a visual expression as well as musical, a painting to listen to. And hopefully, something to think about and within which to find motivation.
